Georgian Windows – modern quality with traditional charm

Modern Georgian windows offer the best of both worlds in terms of functionality and looks, with energy-efficient construction and a romantic aesthetic. If you’re looking to buy new windows for your home, you might want to read up on Klar’s helpful guide, 10 Things to Know When Buying Windows.

First things first, let’s start with a definition of what Georgian windows are: a casement window dating back to the 18th and 19th century. The windows are constructed of several smaller panes of glass separated by wooden bars in a ‘tic-tac-toe’-like frame. Their traditional charm gives a classic and cosy look to any house.

Modern Georgian windows for energy-efficiency

The quaint style of wooden Georgian windows dates back to several centuries ago, when the glass panes were made by glass-blowing. This method allowed only for relatively smaller sized panes, which were put together in a larger frame. Klar’s modern Georgian windows retain the traditional aesthetic while optimising thermal efficiency in their construction of a single, large pane of glass divided by wooden bars that maintain the traditional style of wooden Georgian windows.

One customisable feature of Klar’s modern Georgian windows is opening sashes. Opening sashes allows you to better control the ventilation so that you can maintain the most comfortable home environment possible. You can select exactly the type that is right for you. For example, if you have children or pets and safety is your concern, then modern Georgian windows with an upper opening sash is a great choice so that you can keep the top window open and have peace of mind since it is high enough that the little ones can’t reach it.

Constructed with premium materials

If you’re looking for energy-efficient windows that are built to last, it is important to select ones that are made with high-quality materials and craftsmanship. Klar’s Georgian timber windows are constructed with premium FSC-certified pinewood that is durable and weather resistant. For the highest level of energy-efficiency and the least maintenance, you can opt for alu-clad windows with a wooden interior and powder-coated aluminium exterior.

Klar’s Georgian windows UK are fully customisable, so you can choose your preferred options including the number of casements and panes – all the way up to four casements with 40 panes of glass. Klar also offers both Georgian style double glazed windows as well as triple-glazed varieties. If your priority is maximum energy-efficiency and maintaining a comfortable home environment, then triple-glazed alu-clad Georgian windows UK are the way to go.

Georgian windows glass types at Klar

Besides the option of triple-glazing vs. double-glazing, Klar offers seven different styles of glass for you to choose from for your Georgian windows UK. These include clear glass, acoustic glass, sun protective glass, kura, ornament, satinovo and hardened glass. Depending on what you prioritise for the look and performance of your modern Georgian windows, it is a good idea to check out the different features so you can get the ideal windows for your home.

For a brief run-through on the different glass types, we will start with the most commonly used all-purpose type of clear glass. Acoustic glass reduces the sound vibrations so that the noise level is at a minimum – a great option if you need the nursery quiet for a tiny sleeper or to maintain the zen-like stillness of your home office. Sun protective glass blocks 63% of the sun’s heat and reduces the light by 10-12%. The three decorative raw glass types are Kura, Ornament and Satinovo, each with distinct surfaces. Last but not least, hardened glass is a safety glass that is four times stronger than clear glass.
